The Turtledove Display of Hard & Soft

I’m not really a frou frou-type home decorator, but I thought it would be fun to add a border of dove-like white feathers to the base of my silver ‘Glitz ‘n Glam’ tabletop Christmas tree. The feminine boa softens up the vintage traveler’s suitcase that the tree sits on, and also provides good contrast against the neighboring rusty iron. There’s nothing like some bold red trimmings to add a little more traditional holiday flavor into this very nontraditional mix.

Topping Off 12/12/12

Now before those 12 drummers get their drums a-rolling, I’ve been so backed up with orders of Christmas tree skirts and stockings that I haven’t been able to get as far along with my Christmas home decor as I would like to be… but I have made a start.

Exhibit A. The tree topper. During Christmastime, I always make sure to have multiple trees in my home. The large/main Christmas tree is kept in the living room (a Noble Fir is this year’s winner), while the rest are scattered throughout the entryways and bedrooms. This particular Christmas tree is my foyer/main entrance display. I like to keep my displays looking natural and homemade, so I simply topped it off with some straw, holly, and a big red bow. The look is quite angelic next to the cherubic figurine in the outfield.

In Flanders Fields

Happy Veterans/Remembrance Day. Thanks to all those who have served.

‘In Flanders Fields’ – a war poem written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae – is commonly recited on Remembrance Day in Canada. The poem’s popularity also propelled the ‘red poppy’ to the spotlight as one of the world’s most recognizable memorial symbols.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
         In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
         In Flanders fields.

Vote or Sew

Anxiously awaiting the results of the 2012 Presidential Election. I am far too excited/nervous to sew right now. Amuricah!
